Project Organizer/Office Administrator
Overview of the Organization
The American Civil Liberties Union of Delaware (ACLU-DE) is a nonprofit, membership organization devoted to defending and preserving the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the U.S. and Delaware Constitutions. We accomplish our mission by:
- Educating the people of Delaware about important civil liberty issues;
- Protecting and advancing our rights and freedoms by participating in the legislative process; and
- Providing legal assistance to secure the benefits of constitutional protections when necessary.

Responsibilities
The Project Organizer/Office Administrator is a full time position with a wide range of responsibilities. About 25 hours per week will be spent assisting the Executive Director on developing and executing communication activities, especially online communications, and organizing events and volunteers. The balance of the work time will be spent on traditional office administration activities.
Specific job responsibilities include the following:
- Oversee the organization’s social media communication, electronic communication with members, and regular Web site updating.
- Coordinate the publication of the affiliate’s newsletter.
- Assist with organizing membership events, such as the annual meeting and fundraising dinner.
- Provide development support as needed; hold primary responsibility for accuracy in donor database, record management, gift processing and reporting; generate donor and fundraising reports; assist with donor cultivation events.
- Develop and coordinate the affiliate’s volunteer program, which includes the recruitment, training, and placement of volunteers.
- Oversee computer systems and contracted Information Technology support.
- Facilitate the human resource needs of the affiliate; maintain payroll and personnel records.
- Manage the purchase and maintenance of equipment and office supplies, monitor usage, and manage vendor relationships.
- Generally organize and oversee the smooth functioning of the office environment.
Qualifications:
- B.A. or equivalent and at least two years of relevant work experience. Experience in online communications such as Web site maintenance and Facebook management is highly desirable.
- Excellent organization and administrative skills: a strong, consistent attention to detail, an organized work style, and the ability to follow through on work assignments with a minimum of direct supervision.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. The ability to work on several projects at various stages of completion. Good problem solving skills. A confident, business-like and professional presentation. Flexibility, determination and good humor.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to write clearly and precisely. Strength in proofreading and an ardent attention to detail.
- The ability to interact effectively with volunteers from divergent geographical and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience and a high degree of comfort working with computers. Strong skills in use of computers for database management and word-processing. Familiarity with QuickBooks and/or graphic design programs a plus.
- Creative, result-oriented, self-starting, willing to learn, and able to manage multiple ongoing projects, working beyond 9-5 as needed.
- A commitment to the confidentiality of donor records.
