Delaware's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community now has an identified organization willing to take a stand on the issue of civil rights for lesbian women, gay men, and bisexual and transgender individuals . The project is patterned after the National ACLU LGBT project. The local group falls under the governance of the Board. The unanimous agreement by board members was preceded by comments that LGBT people are largely unprotected from civil rights abuses; and furthermore, a forum was needed to educate and advocate for civil rights when national and local conservative political groups were attacking the rights of many groups and using LGBT issues to polarize the community.
ACLU-DE recognizes LGBT people as a target of discrimination, needing
to be given the support of both the national and Delaware organization. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. Please call the office for the date and location of the project meetings.
The Coordinator of the ACLU-DE LGBT Rights Project is Kim Siegel.
