Congress: Fund Schools, Not Police

In recent years, 14 million students across the country attended schools with police but no nurses, social workers, or psychologists.

As a result, tens of thousands of Black, Indigenous, and Latine students, students with disabilities, and LGBTQ students are disproportionately over-criminalized, harmed, and funneled into the school-to-prison-and-deportation pipeline every year. And schools that received federal funding to hire more police actually experienced a decrease in graduation rates – while those that employed more mental health providers saw improved attendance and graduation rates.

It's clear: We must invest in proven school-based support and mental health services for our students. The Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act will do exactly that, so please tell your member of Congress to co-sponsor the legislation today.

Invest in Students, Not Policing in School

As your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor the Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act (HR 6202/S.3214), which would eliminate the use of federal funds for maintaining police in K-12 schools and give schools $5 billion in grant funding to help hire counselors, social workers, and other trauma-informed support personnel instead.

Instead of being victimized by police or funneled into the school-to-prison-and-deportation pipeline, our students and youth deserve to be physically safe and supported by counselors and other mental health professionals. Please take action by co-sponsoring this crucial bill today

Sincerely,
