Spike Lee’s classic film, Do the Right Thing (1989), considers race relations in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, a cauldron of racial tensions that explodes on the hottest summer day of the year. The film was praised for its relevant depiction of race relations between whites and blacks and lauded actor Danny Aiello for his portrayal of Sal, a pizzeria owner, and director Spike Lee as Mookie, as the pizzeria’s deliveryman.
