Support SS 2 for SB 4: Pass Probation Reform Now
We need you to send a message to the your state legislators.
The 2024 legislative session has started, but for individuals returning home after incarceration, the hurdles to successful reentry remain substantial Over 10,000 Delawareans are subject to the extreme obstacles that the state’s current probation system presents.
Help remove these unnecessary barriers today by sharing your support with your state legislators and asking them to pass Senate Substitute 2 for Senate Bill 4 (SS 2 for SB 4) today. SS 2 for SB 4, sponsored by Sen. Marie Pinkney and Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown, will eliminate systemic barriers that prevent those recently released from prison from successful reentry.
As proposed, SS 2 for SB 4 will
- Limit probation terms for certain individuals to 12 months.
- Prevent incarceration for a technical violation when no new crime has been committed.
- Create customized terms of probation to fit the specific needs of each individual.
We can make 2024 the year we take steps towards reforming Delaware's broken probation system. There’s no time to waste.
We need you to send a message to your state legislators urging them to pass SS 2 for SB 4 NOW. It’s past time to transform our broken probation system from surveillance and punishment to a system that encourages support, guidance, and true rehabilitation.
