Gilbert “Gil” Sloan was a chemist by profession who devoted several decades to progressive politics in Delaware. Gil and his late wife Sonia Sloan were both founding members and longtime board members of ACLU-DE, and they remained with us through our development over the decades.

Gil considered the complete reform of the Ferris School juvenile detention center in the 1990s, which formerly housed children in deplorable conditions, to be one of our greatest achievements. Gil was the last of the original ACLU of Delaware founders, passing in May 2023.
