Bio

Carmen brings over 20 years of experience as an employment and labor attorney and HR leader, building a career as a trusted advisor across industries. She currently serves as Head of Employment Law and HR Compliance for Puig, a Spanish family-owned fashion and beauty conglomerate, where she advises on employment and labor matters across the Americas. Prior to Puig, she served as Global Head of HR Risk & Compliance at BlackRock and held senior legal and HR leadership roles at GAF and International Specialty Products, following her start as a litigation associate at a national law firm.

A self-described "Air Force brat," Carmen grew up moving across the country and around the world, which gave her an early appreciation for diverse communities and perspectives. She has a deep connection to Delaware: in addition to being the home state for her husband’s family, Delaware is where her interracial parents married in 1967, shortly after the Loving v. Virginia decision (which makes her ACLU work feel especially personal).

Carmen holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She is passionate about civil liberties as the foundation for human rights. When she's not in advocate/work mode, you'll find her conjuring gourmet-ish meals from leftover ingredients, watercolor painting, or lifting weights in a relentless negotiation to combat aging. She lives in Wilmington with Matt, their three children, and Luna the dog.
