Medication Abortion: Why We Need It

Just days after the midterm elections, anti-abortion extremists brought a case asking the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reverse its approval of mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortion. This is a key part of extreme groups’ strategy to effectively ban medication abortion in every state, and ultimately outlaw all abortion care nationwide.

Banning medication abortion — which accounts for more than half of abortions across the country — would have devastating effects and compound the public health crisis created after Roe was overturned. Many clinics are already overwhelmed by the influx of patients from states that have banned abortion, and there simply is no way that other procedural abortions will be able to replace the need created by banning mifepristone.

We won’t let this happen without a fight. Everyone should have the ability to make decisions about their own reproductive lives and futures, including choosing the method of abortion that works best for their circumstances. We’re doing everything in our power to stop this cruel attack and prevent it from taking away access to safe and essential abortion and miscarriage care.
