Despite progress that has been made over the past 50 years, various forms of discrimination regularly occur in our society.
Too often people of color, women, immigrants, victims of religious bigotry, members of the LGBT community and people with disabilities encounter prejudice and unfair treatment.
HOW THE ACLU FIGHTS DISCRIMINATION:
- Challenging racial profiling practices by police;
- Protecting the rights of immigrants and citizens targeted as undocumented;
- Defending the rights of teenagers to make reproductive health care decisions without notifying their parents;
- Supporting laws that protect the rights of people with disabilities, and much more.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
The ACLU works to ensure that all people, no matter what race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or physical or mental condition, receive fair and equal treatment under the law.
