ACLU of Delaware Announces Legislative Priorities for 2025, Sends Letter to General Assembly Asking for Support

WILMINGTON, DE — The ACLU of Delaware sent a letter to members of the 153rd General Assembly yesterday, announcing the organization’s legislative priorities for 2025 and asking legislators to support the outlined efforts.
“As we have entered a second Trump administration, states will be on the frontlines of defending our freedom," said Javonne Rich, policy and advocacy director at ACLU-DE, "Now's the time for Delaware lawmakers to commit to legislative action to reaffirm and expand our state's protections, especially when it comes to those who this federal administration has pledged to target — immigrants, people seeking reproductive healthcare, transgender people, Black and brown communities, and people expressing their First Amendment rights."
The priorities outlined in the letter include:
- Protecting sensitive and personal information from weaponization by the government and other private actors
- Prohibiting unjust arrests of immigrants and expanding state-based assistance programs for critical services for immigrants
- Creating a reproductive care equity fund for healthcare providers and organizations
- Protecting and expanding voters’ rights
- Implementing post-release policies and expanding expungement processes
