Restricting Access to the "I" in FOIA

Government openness and transparency are cornerstones to a healthy democracy.

Delaware’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a critical tool for demanding transparency and accountability from our government. Under FOIA, we all have the right to observe the meetings of local, state, and federal agencies and to ask for and receive information and documents in their possession.

Join us on Wednesday, March 18, from 12 - 1 p.m. for a discussion on the nuts and bolts of FOIA, its exemptions, and how pending lawsuits could shake things up. Learn how the ACLU and local journalists use FOIA, what the process is for filing a request, litigating a denial of a request, and the most frequent barriers to information access, and how we navigate them.

Panelists include:

  • Rob Vanella, Journalist at Delaware Call
  • Xerxes Wilson, Journalist at Delaware News Journal
  • Andrew Bernstein, ACLU-DE Civic Engagement Counsel (moderator)

Registration is required to receive the Zoom attendee link. Zoom event will be recorded.

Amicus Society members receive free CLE credit for attendance. Admission for attorneys who seek CLE credit but are NOT Amicus Society members is $50.

Attorneys who attend are eligible for one hour of Continuing Legal Education credit per event.
