The freedom to cast our ballots safely and securely without fear of government retribution due to who we are or how we vote is a vital part of any well-functioning democracy. 

The ACLU of Delaware filed an appeal after the Department of Justice (DOJ) recently denied a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request concerning two activists who have reason to believe the agency has been planning retaliatory action against them for prior protests.

Today the ACLU of Delaware sent a letter to the Ocean View Town Council asking that the recently passed ordinance regulating assemblies be “swiftly repealed” as it violates basic First Amendment rights. 

On June 30, House Bill 182 passed the Delaware General Assembly and is now ready to be signed into law by Governor Matt Meyer. The legislation prohibits Delaware law enforcement agencies from entering into 287(g) contracts with ICE.

Today, Governor Matt Meyer signed Executive Order #11 to protect gender-affirming care in Delaware from attempts by the federal and other state governments to criminalize patients and providers. This action comes after months of pressure from the public and several LGBTQ+ and civil rights groups.

In the wake of recent federal executive orders aimed at terrorizing immigrants nationwide, it is beyond time that Delaware leaders listen and act when we say this:

The ACLU of Delaware condemned the city of Camden’s recent decision to enter into a 287(g) agreement with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A coalition of 19 LGBTQ+ organizations in Delaware sent a letter to Governor Meyer’s office. The letter urges the Governor to take bold action in support of the rights of transgender people in Delaware in response to both federal and state-level attacks the community is facing.
