Vonda Smack was born and raised in Delaware, where she has been advocating for social and racial justice issues for many years. Her involvement with ACLU-DE began over two years ago when she became a Lead Smart Justice Ambassador (SJA) with the Campaign for Smart Justice. As an SJA, Vonda led advocacy and organizing efforts in support of legislation, policies, and initiatives to reduce the prison population and challenge racial disparities within the criminal legal system.
Prior to joining the ACLU of Delaware in September 2023, Vonda was an Organizing Fellow at Network Delaware. She currently serves on the Executive Board for the NAACP Central Delaware Branch as the Chair of Economic Development, and recently earned a seat on the City of Dover Safety Advisory and Transportation committee.
With over 20 years of experience as a vocal community advocate, Vonda is a well-known and trusted voice throughout greater Kent County — often referred to as “The Mouth of Dover."
