2016 Kandler Dinner: Advocating for Students

October 19, 2016 @ 5:30 pm

Advocating for Students

Celebrated annually since 1985, the Kandler Memorial Awards Dinner is our most popular event. The dinner is named for formerACLU-DE President Gerald “Gerry” E. Kandler (1932-1985) and honors Delawareans who have made an indelible mark on our community as advocates and defenders of civil liberties. Kandler himself was a superb constitutional lawyer and a tireless champion for those whose civil liberties and rights were in jeopardy.

This year, we present the Kandler Award to Jeff Raffel, retired Charles P. Messick Professor of Public Administration and Director of the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Delaware, and Jea P. Street, New Castle County Councilman, for their past and present roles in assuring equal access to quality education for all children in Delaware.

We are also honored to present our Clarence Darrow Award to Pepper Hamilton LLP. We thank them for their tireless and diligent work in CLASI v. Coupe, the recent settlement that will change solitary confinement as we know it in Delaware.
Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.

Don't forget about our silent auction! No matter your tastes or budget, we have something for you. A few examples:

  • one week at a shore house
  • beautiful handcrafted jewelry
  • theatre tickets
  • restaurant gift certificates
  • gorgeous framed photos of beach scenes from a local photographer
