Ballot Power: Smart Justice

August 18, 2022 @ 6:30 pm

In the midst of a nationwide mass incarceration crisis, Delaware still has a lot of work to do when it comes to effective justice reform. Too many Delaware residents have been adversely affected by the justice system, a system that disproportionately impacts people of color. Too many of our lawmakers have consistently put the interest of law enforcement over the will of their own constituents, and not enough people who are living with a record have access to a true second chance through record clearance.

This election season, let’s support candidates who are willing to hold police accountable, protect the rights of people living in prisons, reform harsh sentencing laws, end unjust practices like cash bail, combat racial inequities, expand access to second chances, and push for investments in alternatives to policing and prisons. Join us at a virtual training to learn more about what it means to vote to protect and expand justice reform in 2022.

This training will educate attendees on our Smart Justice policy priorities and share actions voters can take to ensure that Delaware elects lawmakers who are prepared to lock in their commitment to supporting these measures. Our priority legislative issues include:

  • Police accountability and transparency;
  • Probation reform; and
  • Expanding access to second chances through the Clean Slate Delaware campaign.
