People, Not Prisons: Letter to the Editor Writing Party

March 6, 2019 @ 5:30 pm

Make Your Voice Heard for Smart Justice at our Letter to the Editor Writing Party!

When it comes to criminal justice reform, your voice is important.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings got the ball rolling on systemic reforms this year by announcing a list of landmark prosecutorial directives that have the potential to slow the number of people entering prison and shorten the length of sentences people are typically serving in prison.

It’s up to Delaware’s General Assembly to take the next step by passing meaningful legislation that will further reduce the number of people in prison and address the racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

That’s where you come in. Your legislators were elected to represent their communities so they need to see that Delawareans overwhelmingly support criminal justice reform in the first state.

The Coalition for Smart Justice is hosting a letter to the editor writing party to make Delawareans’ voices heard on this issue.
Will you join us?

When:
Wednesday, March 6
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Where:
Rt. 9 Library and Innovation Center
3022 New Castle Ave, New Castle, DE 19720

Please RSVP by clicking the ticket link on this page.

We’ll start the party with snacks, refreshments and a brief training on writing letters to the editor. From there we’ll help you tell your story or share your opinion on the areas of reform that resonate with you most.

Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard, learn more about writing opinion pieces for media publication, meet like-minded community members, hang out with some of your favorite social justice organizations and get involved with criminal justice reform on a grassroots level.

We encourage you to bring your tablet or laptop to write and save your LTE digitally. We will provide pens, paper and envelopes for anyone who isn’t able to bring a tablet or laptop.
